Athletics
We had a busy day today. During the middle block we did athletics. We are practicing for our House Group Athletics Day later in the term. Our class did Shot-Put first, followed by Long Jump. We learned how to push, not throw, and to use our bodies to help get a further distance when dpoing Shot-Put. For Long Jump we learned to pump our arms and legs to build up speed and to take off with one leg and land without stepping or falling backwards.

Kapa Haka performance Term 3
For the last few weeks, our whole school has been practising for the Te Ohonga o Ngāpuhi Kapa Haka performance.
We had waiata training from Whaea Lainie and Whaea Gaylene.
We performed He Honore, Toro Mai, Tutira Mai Nga Iwi, Te Pou, Magic People and the Haka.
We learned the importance of singing with a clear voice and opening our mouths wide. We also learned to show pride in our performance so it clearly shows when we sing that we are proud of our culture.
Here is a photo of our last practice on the performance day.

Class Movie Making
This week we have been learning about making movies using We Video. We learned about different camera angles you can use in your movies to make them more interesting. We learned how to edit our videos using We Video. We used the cutting function to cut out the parts we didn't need. Some of us also added audio to our movies.
We found it easy to record our actions, do close-up shots and use different angles.
We found it challenging to get the timing right and get good sound quality and lighting. The sound was tricky because it was a windy day and there was lots of background noise from other students.
Some of us really enjoyed acting and being able to create what we wanted. We liked being able to come up with our own ideas.
Next time we could try working through the editing stage at a slower pace so we are not rushing to finish.

Lockdown Acrostic Poem
During week 1 of the lockdown, room 6 wrote an acrostic poem about being in Lockdown to share what we are going through.
First, we made sure we understood what an acrostic poem is. Most of us knew what an acrostic poem was, we just didn’t know what it was called.
We started a new google drawing and wrote the name Lockdown going downwards using WordArt.
Next, we inserted text boxes to write the information for our poem.
After that, some of us added images that suited the topic, and some of us made changes to our fonts and formatting.
We found it easy to write a sentence that started with the letter in the acrostic.
We found it hard to think of relevant adjectives for my poem.
We really enjoyed making connections to my personal life and how I am experiencing being in lockdown.
Next time we need to try adding adjectives and verbs in my writing to make it more interesting for my reader.

Our Term 2 Assembly
Week 4 of term 2 was room 6's turn to run the school assembly.
We showcased some of the work we have been doing for Te Reo Maori and Cybersmart.
Tamariki took turns presenting their work and did really well with speaking with confident clear voices so they could be heard.
We also said goodbye to Whaea Lee. She finished working to go on maternity leave. We will miss her but we know she will come and visit us.
We now have Whaea Leah as a Teacher Aid in our room.
